Surface Hardened Rolls

The company Kolding produces surface hardened rolls which are used for classical cold rolling mill type 2-Hi, 4-Hi and 6-Hi in the dimensional range  from 20 mm to 650 mm in a diameter, with a max. lenght of 5500 mm and weight up to 7000 kg.

Surface hardened rolls have to withstand high area pressure. To meet these requirements, various means are used by Ravne both at the steelmelting stage and also during forging and heat treatment, prior to the final hardening.

Rolls are surface hardened in a dual frequency induction hardening machine, followed by rapid cooling with liquid nitrogen below -140oC,  and then tempered at low temperature.

Work rolls for a cold rollig mill have the following characteristics: high fracture, spalling and wear resistance, high hardness (84/105 SHC) in to the depth of 35 mm and the finest surface quality.
